A delicious and comforting Southern Maple Sweet Potato Casserole that combines the natural sweetness of sweet potatoes with maple syrup and a crunchy topping.

- 4 cups sweet potatoes, mashed
- 1/2 cup maple syrup
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/4 cup butter, melted
- 2 eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1 cup pecans, chopped
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup flour
- 1/4 cup butter, softened
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large bowl, combine the mashed sweet potatoes, maple syrup, milk, melted butter, eggs, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
- Mix until smooth and well combined.
- Pour the sweet potato mixture into a greased baking dish.
- In another bowl, mix the chopped pecans, brown sugar, flour, and softened butter until crumbly.
- Sprinkle the pecan mixture over the sweet potato layer.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes or until the topping is golden brown.
- Let it cool slightly before serving.
Notes
- For a vegan version, substitute eggs with flax eggs and use plant-based milk.
- Can be prepared a day in advance and baked before serving.
- Adjust the sweetness by adding more or less maple syrup according to taste.
