Description
A quick and easy chocolate mug cake made in the microwave.
Ingredients
Scale
- 3 Tbsp all-purpose flour (23 g)
- 2 Tbsp granulated sugar (25 g)
- 1 Tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder (7.5 g)
- 1/4 teaspoon baking powder (1 g)
- Dash of salt (0.5 g)
- 3 Tbsp milk (45 ml)
- 1 Tbsp canola oil or melted butter (15 ml)
- 1/8 teaspoon vanilla extract (0.6 ml)
- 1 teaspoon chocolate chips or other baking chips (5 g)
Instructions
- Lightly spray the inside of a microwave-safe mug with cooking spray.
- Add flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt. Stir to combine.
- Add milk, oil, and vanilla extract. Stir until smooth, scraping the bottom of the mug.
- Stir in chocolate chips or sprinkle on top.
- Microwave for 70–90 seconds until the cake is just set but still slightly shiny on top.
- Let rest in the microwave for 1 minute before eating.
Notes
- Microwave times vary. Start with 70 seconds, rest 1 minute, and add 15–25 seconds more if needed.
- Stop cooking slightly early to keep the center soft as it continues to cook while cooling.
- Add-In Ideas: Nutella or peanut butter, coconut flakes or nuts, pinch of cinnamon, flavored baking chips.
- Lighter Options: Reduce sugar, replace oil with applesauce, use white whole wheat flour, use almond or soy milk.
